Art, Architecture & Heritage in Sheerness
In September 2011 I co-ordinated Promenade, the Isle of Sheppeys first festival of heritage, art and architecture for Swale Borough Council.
The project included twenty-seven events, over three days and featured talks by Michael Palin and Dan Cruickshank as well as locally generated heritage initiatives including a family trail, local history fair, performances, walks, talks, exhibitions, a temporary blue plaque scheme and a site specific dance commission. Many people also made the most of the opportunity to see inside the Dockyard and Shurland Hall, both rarely open to the public. Over 1200 people attended events and the community are keen to establish the event as part of the Islands cultural calendar.
