In Autumn 2011 I was asked to develop the Bright Sparks youth consultation programme for the Royal Opera House Thurrock team, in advance of their new Bridge Organisation status commencing. I worked with ten young people from four schools in Basildon, Brentwood, Shoeburyness and Grays to devise a peer to peer youth consultation exercise. The project included working with The People Speak and their Talkaoke Table game show style multi-media “ufo of chat”, as well as students gathering feedback on lightbulb cards and a range of platforms. Many hundreds of young people from the schools took part, resulting in a substantial body of research and ideas for what arts opportunities young people want to see available in the region.
